At body Focus we say
No to Yo-Yo Dieting!
 |
Don’t fall into the trap of yo- yo dieting.
It is a self roller coaster ride,
which can be detrimental to your self belief and will put you on the wrong side of a losing battle with your weight!
To give you an example of this roller coaster ride, we will look at one scenario.
‘June’ who wants to lose a stone for an upcoming wedding hears about the ‘all new latest craze - lose ten pounds in 3 days. This promises you that if you eat just the right combination of foods, a set of chemical reactions will ensue, which will simply make the pounds melt away.
So armed with this knowledge, June heads to the shops to buy this medley of food. She spends 3 days eating beetroot, ice cream, corn on the cob and dry toast on day 4. Wow June is an incredible 9 pounds lighter.
BUT NOT FOR LONG. June returns to her normal eating pattern and slowly the weight creeps back on and even worse. June now weights 1 pound heavier than when she started!

So what's wrong?
Chemical diets and other diets which promise radical weight loss in a very short time have one thing in common:
They all rely on dehydrating the body in order to deliver on their promise.
Carbohydrates are stored in the muscles and liver as glycogen and every part glycogen is stored with 3 parts of water.
When you embark on these magic weight loss plans you rid your body of its stored glycogen and with, as a result, its stored water. And yes that magic weight loss is almost entirely water.
Why weight any longer?

Get off the roller coaster ride - start eating a balanced diet - feed your body,
ironically only then will your begin to lose the weight you are punishing yourself over.
Stop the torturous restrictive diet where you only emerge possibly a few pounds lighter from shedding stored water and end up with a slowed and confused metabolism. This is why so many women find their weight creeping higher and higher on the scales with each subsequent fad diet they embarked upon.
Get on a balanced diet, with a good exercise plan (remember muscle is metabolically active meaning it burns calories)
so LOSS of muscle equals a slower metabolism.
